Abu Dhabi Crown Prince joins dinner hosted by Canadian PM on official visit

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended a dinner in Canada hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney during an official visit to the country.

Diplomatic talks and bilateral ties

Mr Carney welcomed Sheikh Khaled and voiced optimism that the trip would bolster friendship and co-operation between the United Arab Emirates and Canada. In response, Sheikh Khaled thanked the Canadian leader for the warm reception and generous hospitality shown to him and his accompanying delegation.

Over the meal, the two sides reviewed UAE-Canada relations and discussed ways to take co-operation to new levels. Topics covered also included several issues of shared interest, with both parties focusing on deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The high-level UAE delegation accompanying Sheikh Khaled includes Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation; Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment.

Broader regional and global engagement

Sheikh Khaled’s visit comes weeks after President Sheikh Mohamed held a telephone conversation with Mr Carney, during which they explored efforts to deepen partnerships, particularly in the areas of economy, investment and advanced technology.

The trip underscores the UAE’s wider diplomatic push to strengthen partnerships with key allies on the global stage.

In July, the UAE finalised a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa) with Canada, a deal designed to reduce trade barriers for goods, services and investment.

Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada follows shortly after an official trip to Greece, where he met Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During that visit, the two countries reinforced their expanding relations, with the UAE agreeing to invest an additional 15 billion euros ($16.8 billion) in Greece as part of a joint initiative.

Last month, Sheikh Khaled represented the UAE at the Brics Summit in India. In April, he also met Xi Jinping, President of China, during an official visit to that country.
