The short version
Akhbar Abu Dhabi is a news site you can read without an account. We collect very little, we do not sell it, and what we do collect is used to keep the site running, safe and understandable. This page sets out the details.
What reaches our servers
When you open a page, your browser sends a request, and our servers keep ordinary technical logs of it: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the browser and device type, and the response given. We use these logs to keep the site secure, to diagnose faults and to detect abuse. They are kept for a limited period and then deleted or reduced to aggregate figures.
Cloudflare
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as a content delivery network and a security layer. Requests to the site pass through Cloudflare’s systems, which process technical data such as your IP address in order to speed up delivery and block malicious traffic. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie for this purpose. Its handling of that data is governed by its own terms and privacy notice.
Cookies and your browser’s memory
We do not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across other sites. The site stores small items in your browser’s local storage only for essential functions and to remember a choice you make, such as your preferred language or, where offered, a my emirate or area selection. This information stays on your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, and the site will simply forget the choice.
Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly analytics to learn which sections are read and how the site performs. Such tools produce aggregate statistics and are configured not to build profiles of individual readers. We use the results to improve coverage and fix problems, not to identify you.
If you write to us
Messages sent through the contact form, including your name and the contact details you give, are used only to respond to you and to keep a record of that correspondence, including any correction made as a result. We do not add you to mailing lists and we do not pass your message to third parties, except where the law requires it or where we must involve a service provider that helps us operate the form.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not rent or trade lists of readers.
- We do not use your data for advertising profiles.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the UAE Personal Data Protection Law and the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law, may give you rights over personal data held about you. These can include the right to ask whether we hold data about you, to see it, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to certain uses. We write this page with those frameworks in mind, but we make no claim of certification, and nothing here is a guarantee of compliance with any particular law. To make a request, use the contact page; we may need to confirm that the request comes from the person concerned.
Retention and security
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as the law requires. We rely on reasonable technical measures, including encrypted connections and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.
