Abu Dhabi unveils Dh872m project to connect Ramhan and Jubail islands to E12 highway
By Abu Dhabi Desk

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has announced an infrastructure project worth Dh872 million ($237 million) that will link Ramhan and Jubail islands with the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed (E12) motorway.
The development spans 166,000 square metres and includes seven bridges, three tunnels, and a network of ramps, roads and utility corridors. It is designed to improve road accessibility and capacity while supporting smoother traffic flow in the area. Completion is scheduled for 2027.
Key component of transport network
Eisa Al Mazrouei, director general of Infrastructure Development at DMT, described the project as a sophisticated construction effort that forms an important part of Abu Dhabi’s evolving transportation network.
“This sophisticated construction project represents an important part of Abu Dhabi’s evolving transportation network, facilitating access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands while unlocking new development zones and economic opportunities,” Mr Al Mazrouei said.
Advanced works are already underway, according to DMT. The project is part of the department’s broader efforts to enhance mobility across the capital and supports its plan to develop integrated communities that boost urban and economic growth in the emirate.
Sustainability features
The project incorporates environmentally conscious elements in its design. Energy-efficient LED lighting will be used throughout to reduce energy consumption and limit light pollution. Approximately 90 per cent of construction waste — equivalent to more than 2,200 tonnes — will be recycled.
Island developments
Ramhan and Jubail islands, located off Abu Dhabi’s coast, are designated for significant residential and commercial projects. Improved road connectivity has been identified as a priority in the emirate’s long-term planning.
Ramhan Island, developed by Eagle Hills, covers 400 hectares, of which more than half is developable. Construction is ongoing. When completed, the island will contain about 1,800 stand-alone villas, 900 marina residences, a luxury hotel and a retail promenade.
Jubail Island, a 4,000-hectare waterfront master-planned community conceptualised and developed by Lead Development, is surrounded by kilometres of protected mangroves, waterways and forested trails. The developer describes it as “the place to be” for families seeking more than just a home, offering a lifestyle at “human speed” surrounded by nature with room to grow.
