UAE to Invest Additional €15 Billion in Greece, Expanding Strategic Partnership

The United Arab Emirates will invest a further €15 billion (Dh61.7 billion) in Greece as part of an expanded joint economic initiative between the two countries. The announcement was made on the sidelines of an official visit to Athens by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on Thursday.

Deepening Bilateral Investment Framework

The new commitment builds on a previous joint investment initiative launched in May 2022 with a value of €4 billion, reported Abu Dhabi Media Office. The framework has been instrumental in developing and executing strategic investments across sectors of mutual interest, the media office said. It has already facilitated the completion of significant transactions in key areas such as energy and healthcare.

The investment reflects the mutual trust between the UAE and Greece, according to the media office, which described it as an opportunity to explore new prospects in vital and future-focused sectors. The move is intended to support sustainable economic growth and enhance the competitiveness of both economies.

Abu Dhabi Media Office added that the announcement underlines the UAE’s confidence in Greece’s economic strengths, its strategic geographic location, and its role as a bridge linking European markets with regional and international markets. It also highlights the promising opportunities Greece offers for developing major projects and forging long-term partnerships.

High-Level Talks in Athens

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office. Their discussions centered on strengthening collaboration across a wide range of key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology.

Sheikh Khaled and Mr. Mitsotakis also reviewed regional and international developments and stressed the importance of reinforcing security, peace, and stability.

Upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, Sheikh Khaled was greeted by George Gerapetritis, the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, state news agency Wam reported early on Thursday.
