Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday. The talks took place on the sidelines of the two-day NDTV World Summit.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed ways to further strengthen the deep-rooted bilateral ties under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that already exists between the United Arab Emirates and India.
Global challenges and cooperation
Sheikh Theyab and Mr Modi reviewed key themes of the summit, including transformations in the global economy, the role of artificial intelligence and technology in advancing development, and the importance of forging international partnerships to tackle pressing challenges.
The discussions highlight the strength of relations between the long-standing allies, ties that date back to the formation of the UAE.
Further high-level engagements
On Monday, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, in Mumbai during a working visit to India. Sheikh Abdullah said the UAE-India partnership continues to gain momentum, helping to reinforce both countries as key drivers of global economic growth.
The UAE is home to approximately four million Indian citizens, the largest expatriate community in the country.
In May, Mr Modi made an official visit to the Emirates, during which he met President Sheikh Mohamed. Earlier, in January, Sheikh Mohamed made a working visit to New Delhi, where he and Mr Modi pledged to deepen cooperation in sectors such as artificial intelligence, the economy and food security, during talks at the Prime Minister’s residence.
In 2024, Mr Modi undertook a two-day visit to the UAE, where he addressed a crowd of 40,000 Indians at Zayed Sports City Stadium. He also spoke at the World Governments Summit in Dubai and inaugurated the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.
