Sheikh Tahnoon and US Venture Capitalist David Fialkow Discuss Technology Investment Trends

Talks Focus on Technology Partnerships

The Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, met with US billionaire businessman David Fialkow, with discussions centred on opportunities for business and technology collaboration.

Sheikh Tahnoon and Mr Fialkow, who co-founded the venture capital firm General Catalyst, examined recent developments in the technology sector and how they are influencing investment trends. They stressed the need to leverage expertise and investment capacity to drive economic growth.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Sheikh Tahnoon said the two had “exchanged perspectives on shared areas of interest and potential avenues for collaboration.”

General Catalyst and Portfolio Company Otter

Mr Fialkow founded General Catalyst in 2000. The firm now manages billions of dollars in assets and has invested in more than 800 companies, with a portfolio that ranges from Airbnb to Anthropic.

On Tuesday, Otter, an AI-powered voice transcription tool, announced it had secured $320 million from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund. The company plans to use the funding to expand internationally and develop its products.

Sheikh Tahnoon’s Broader Engagement

Sheikh Tahnoon also chairs the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council and is a key figure in Abu Dhabi’s expanding global investment strategy, which places a strong emphasis on advanced technologies. He frequently meets prominent business and technology leaders to highlight investment opportunities and foster collaboration.

His past meetings include discussions with G42 chief executive Peng Xiao, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang, and Satya Nadella, as well as senior US officials from the current administration. In February, he met former British prime minister Tony Blair to talk about the increasing importance of AI and government efficiency.
