Travel options from Dubai to Abu Dhabi for non-drivers
By Abu Dhabi Desk

As of 20 October 2026, residents and visitors without a driving licence have several alternatives to taxis when travelling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. The options range from intercity buses to the Etihad Rail and even helicopter services.
Etihad Rail
Etihad Rail, the UAE’s newest public transport system, offers a rail link between the two cities. The service is increasingly used for both leisure and practical purposes, including business meetings and attending performances. Ticket prices start at Dhs39 for Comfort Class and Dhs109 for Premium Class, with the journey lasting one hour and four minutes. Trains depart from Dubai at various times throughout the day, and passengers are advised to plan their trips in advance.
Public bus
The intercity bus remains the most budget-friendly option. Passengers can board the E100 bus at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Bur Dubai or the E101 bus outside Ibn Battuta Metro Station. For travel to Al Ain, the E201 bus runs from Ghubaiba to Al Ain bus station. Tickets cost Dhs25 and can be paid for using a Nol card or booked online. Travel time is between one and a half and two hours. Buses from Al Ghubaiba depart every 20 to 30 minutes, while those from Ibn Battuta run every 20 minutes. Detailed timetables are available on the RTA website.
Helicopter
For those seeking a quicker alternative, helicopter transfers are available. A one-way flight from Atlantis Hotel on The Palm to Abu Dhabi cruise terminal in Mina Zayed costs from Dhs11,999. Two-way options with a short wait time of one to three hours start at Dhs13,999, while longer wait times of four to six hours cost from Dhs14,999. The flight takes 30 to 40 minutes. Bookings can be made via the Falcon Heli Tour website. HeliDubai also offers private charters with pickup from HeliDubai helipad inside Dubai Police Academy and drop-off points including Emirates Palace Hotel, Sir Baniyas Island and Zaya Nurai Island. Price quotes can be requested through their service.
