Fog triggers speed limit cuts in Abu Dhabi, safety warnings in Dubai

Fog reduces visibility across emirates

Heavy fog led authorities to reduce speed limits in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning, while a safety warning was issued for drivers in Dubai due to poor visibility.

Police issue speed limit alerts

Alerts were sent to motorists in parts of Abu Dhabi, warning them that speed limits had been reduced to 80kph, while drivers were urged to exercise caution on the roads in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi Police posted on X, “Abu Dhabi Police call on motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during the fog,” the force wrote on X. “They are urged to follow changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards.”

A similar message was issued by police in Dubai, where motorists were told to drive carefully in the heavy fog.

Dubai Police said on X, “With the formation of fog and reduced visibility in some areas of the emirate of Dubai, and in the interest of your safety, we remind you of the importance of reducing speed in accordance with road conditions, and exercising caution and care while driving.”

Meteorology outlook

The National Centre of Meteorology predicted the foggy conditions would continue until at least 9am on Friday.
